Welcome to Jaegerbakkens Kennel

We are Paul and Vibeke Jensen, proud breeders of the Small Munsterlander. Established in 1973, we have exclusively trained and bred Small Munsterlanders (imported from Denmark) since our first day. In fact, Jaegerbakkens Kennel was the first registered kennel of the Small Munsterlander in North America.

The Small Munsterlander is a versatile hunting dog. It points its game, is an enthusiastic retriever and it has a great passion for water. The major reasons why the dog has become popular is (1) he normally always finds his game in the field, and (2) at home he is the good-natured family and watchdog.

The breed is well-known throughout Europe and it is gaining recognition in North America. A vibrant club The Small Munsterlander Club of North America Inc. (SMCNA) was founded in 1993 and it is the protector of the breed in the United States. Since April 1978, we have field tested the skills of the Small Munsterlander in the specialized arena of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA).

We invite you to contact us with questions and comments.

Sincerely,
The Jensen Family

Announcements

The first book in the English language about our favorite breed with the title
The Small Munsterlander - A Breed Apart is authored by Paul Jensen and Don Knaus and is now available. This treatise could just as easily have been titled "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Small Munsters and More." The book is intended to be a comprehensive guide for owners of Small Munsterlanders. The foundation of the work embraces the character and the history of that breed. The book includes specific training techniques that Paul developed through his 30 years association with NAVHDA both as an officer and founder of local chapters, and a judge. The book includes more than 90 photos most of which are in full color.

Vibeke and Paul have also authored a book about the rearing of puppies with the title:
The JOY of Having PUPPIES. The star of the book is Bliss, a Danish import, that also had the first registered litter of puppies in North America! We bred Bliss four times and she had a total of 28 puppies, which brought great joy to her and us. They brought us experiences, too, of the kind we wish we had before we bred her. Bliss has left us many years ago for the eternal hunting grounds so it is in memory of her and my first real hunting buddy, Alpha, that this book was written. The book includes more than 80 full color photos.

Hunting with Appi
In November of 2003 Paul had the privilege of going hunting for pheasants in South Dakota with Jameson Parker (known for his role as A.J. in the television series Simon and Simon that was aired in the early 1990s) at the Krull Ranch in Harrold located some 25 miles east of Pierre. The result of the filming became a program that was aired several times on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). The film was part of a series called Beretta's Bird Hunter's Journal and our episode was titled:
Small Munsterlanders with a Big Heart

Support Our Troops
We would like to draw your attention to our wounded combat veterans. You can help "Unleash Their Possibilities". NEADS, a tiny nonprofit group, has been providing dogs for deaf and disabled Americans since 1976. The need for dogs has increased during the last years because a new program Canines for Combat Veterans. NEADS is now also providing veterans with service dogs that are 24/7 companions. These dogs can retrieve and carry objects, open doors, call attention to safety hazards, help with stress and balance difficulties, and provide a bridge back to society.
To learn more about this incredible important program please go to:

Many of these dogs will be trained by prison inmates (helping in their rehabilitation) and become the New Best Friends for Disabled Veterans.
