Birth of puppies special event here
June 9, 1977

About eight weeks ago, a special thing happened out on Hunters Ridge Rd.
Five male puppies were born, but not just any five male puppies; they are members of the rare breed Kleiner Muensterlaender.
According to their owners, Paul and Vibeke Jensen, this breed of dog has never been bred in the United States, and as far as they have been able to determine, their "Muensters" are the only ones in this country. For some reason or other, says Mrs. Jensen; the dogs have just not made it across the Atlantic Ocean.
The Jensens, who moved to Concord from Denmark seven years ago, brought the puppies’ parents here from Europe about two years ago. Mrs. Jensen noted that some restrictions are placed on bringing the Muensterlaenders to this country and that approval is needed if the owners plan to breed.
But, smiled Mrs. Jensen as the puppies crowded around for lunch, "I’ve always been interested in dogs, so it seemed right to bring the "Muensters" here"
The brown and white puppies, each of which will grow to about 22 inches high were born on 12 April and are ready to leave their first home and join new owners. The Jensens would like to hear from those interested in owning one of the puppies, or from anyone who might know more about the breed of dog and the possible existence of other "Muensters" in the United States.
As the puppies crowded around the food dish, Mrs. Jensen noted that the dogs were first bred 300 to 400 years ago in Germany as watch and hunting dogs. Considered one of the smallest of bird dogs, they have good dispositions, like to be around people and are gentle with children. Muensterlaenders are good indoor dogs, added Mrs. Jensen.
The Jensens’ two daughters also show great interest in the dogs. Iben, 15, attends Peabody and Gritt, 9, goes to Willard school.
